Listed on this page is a sampling of the activities that are offered through our seniors section.  Please call our office at 634.4644 for the most up-to-date information on our current offerings.

Senior Transportation Program
Henry County Parks and Recreation provides transportation services to senior citizens, particularly those who reside in rural areas, that are residents of Henry County and are 60 years of age and older. Preference is given to elderly, transportation disadvantaged and disabled. Transportation for seniors is available on a first come, first serve basis to medical appointments, grocery shopping and occasional recreational trips. Please call 634.4644 at least two business days before the requested date of transportation.

Nutrition Sites
Join us for entertainment, socializing and a good hot lunch. This program is for all income levels, so come and join the fun, food and fellowship. Open to all adults ages 60 and above.

Breakfast Club  
The Breakfast Club is open to all adults ages 50 and above. The Breakfast Club is designed to be a fun and socially interactive way to enjoy breakfast and learn something of interest through a short informational program.

Day/Time:4th Tuesday of each month
8:30 a.m.
Location:February - Chris's Restaurant
March - Clarence's
April - Art's Etc. and Cafe
Cost:Individual is responsible for cost of breakfast

Out-to-Lunch Bunch  
The Out-to-Lunch Bunch is open to all adults ages 50 and above. Join us at a local restaurant for lunch, an informational program and occasional entertainment. Everyone is welcome.

Day/Time:3rd Tuesday of each month
1:00 p.m.
Location:February - Captain Tom's Seafood
March - Third Bay Cafe
April - Chatmoss Country Club
Cost:Individual is responsible for cost of lunch

Bridge Club  
The Bridge Club is open to all adults ages 50 and above. Bridge is designed to be a fun and socially interactive way for seniors to enjoy playing cards. Beginners as well as experienced Bridge players are welcome. You must ensure four people plan to play at your table.

Days/Time:1st and 3rd Thursday of each month at 12:30 p.m.
Location:Henry County Administration Building

Annual Fall Men's Golf Tournament
Henry County Parks and Recreation in conjunction with the Martinsville Senior Center hosts a Fall Men's Golf Tournament each year. Please call 634.4643 for additional information.

Bowling League
The Senior Bowling League is offered several times throughout the year. The league is designed to be fun and allow for seniors to get some exercise. Beginners as well as experienced bowlers are welcome.

Line Dance Class
Line Dance Class is open to all adults ages 50 and above. Line Dance Class is designed to be a fun way of learning new line dances, and encourages social interaction with other seniors. This class meet on Tuesdays at 10:00am at Teresa's School of Baton and Dance.  There is a weekly or monthly fee.

Holiday Lunches
A special lunch is held several times a year around holidays such as: Valentine's Day, St. Patrick's Day, Easter, Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas. Each senior is asked to bring a covered dish.
 
Trips and Travel Opportunities
Various Day and Overnight trips are offered throughout the year for seniors to enjoy. Past trips have included visits to Niagara Falls, New Orleans, Southern Spring Show, Blue Ridge Dinner Theatre, Myrtle Beach, Southern Christmas Show, Cape Cod, North Carolina State Fair, Barn Dinner Theatre, Biltmore Estate, Callaway Gardens, Boone, NC, West Virginia State Fair and the Amish country. Call 634.4644 for the latest travel information.

Ladies Safety and Firearms Class
Henry County Parks and Recreation in conjunction with the Henry County Sheriff's Office, sponsors a safety and firearms class for senior ladies each spring and fall. Call 634.4644 to register or to obtain additional information.

Scrapbooking Classes
These classes are a great way to learn how to create beautiful photo albums for everyone to enjoy.  You will learn many aspects of the scrapbooking hobby. 

Movie Day
An afternoon at the movies is planned on various Wednesdays at local theaters.

Golf Tournaments
Tournaments for men and women are held several times throughout the year at local golf courses.

Trail Hikes
Guides hikes are held throughout the year at the different trails in Martinsville and Henry County.  Enjoy beautiful scenery while walking on trails that are rated as easy to moderate.
