Martinsville and Henry County have received a CDBG Telecommunications Planning Grant to assess the current state of broadband capabilities within the geographical area.
The initiative has been driven by two significant factors:
- Knowing that some gaps in service exist across the county and potentially in the city but not knowing the precise need to ensure universal coverage
- Increased awareness of the need to ensure access to the internet for all citizens particularly in light of the ongoing COVID-19 crisis.
This grant, along with a matching grant provided by the Harvest Foundation, will be used to hire a consultant who will survey the localities to find underserved areas and propose solutions for expanding internet coverage throughout.
