Senior Transportation Program

Henry County Parks and Recreation provides transportation services to senior citizens, particularly those who reside in rural areas, that are residents of Henry County and are 60 years of age and older. Preference is given to elderly, transportation disadvantaged and disabled. Transportation for seniors is available on a first come, first serve basis to medical appointments, grocery shopping and occasional recreational trips. Please call 276-634-4644 at least two business days before the requested date of transportation.

Nutrition Sites

Join us for entertainment, socializing and a good hot lunch. This program is for all income levels, so come and join the fun, food and fellowship. Open to all adults ages 60 and above.

Breakfast Club

The Breakfast Club is open to all adults ages 50 and above. The Breakfast Club is designed to be a fun and socially interactive way to enjoy breakfast and learn something of interest through a short informational program.

Bridge Club

The Bridge Club is open to all adults ages 50 and above. Bridge is designed to be a fun and socially interactive way for seniors to enjoy playing cards. Beginners as well as experienced Bridge players are welcome. You must ensure four people plan to play at your table.

Annual Fall Men's Golf Tournament

Henry County Parks and Recreation hosts a Fall Men's Golf Tournament each year. Please call 276-634-4643 for additional information.

Bowling League

The Senior Bowling League is offered in the winter, spring and fall of each year. The league is designed to be fun and allow for seniors to get some exercise. Beginners as well as experienced bowlers are welcome.

Technology Classes

Various technology classes are held throughout the year that focus on such things as computers, iPhones, apps and other devices.

Line Dance Class

Line Dance Class is open to all adults ages 50 and above. Line Dance Class is designed to be a fun way of learning new line dances, and encourages social interaction with other seniors. This class meets on Tuesdays at 10 am at Teresa's School of Baton and Dance. There is a weekly or monthly fee.

Movie Day

An afternoon at the movies is planned on various days at local theatres.

Trail Trekkers

Guided hikes are held throughout the year at the different trails in Martinsville and Henry County. Enjoy beautiful scenery while walking on trails that are rated as easy to moderate.

Beginning Line Dance

Introductory line dance classes are offered on Thursdays throughout most of the year at the Henry County Recreation Center on Thursday.evenings.

Art of the Month

Join us for Art of the Month with Karen Eggleston.  Each month a different and unique craft is made and they make great gifts and decorations for your home. Call us for details of the craft, time and locations.

First Fridays at the Lanes - Social

Join us the first Friday of each month to bowl from 9 to 11 am. Bowling is $1.00 per game and light refreshments are provided.

Dick and Willie Walks

We have an organized walk on the Dick and Willie Trail each Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 9:15 am (weather permitting) and we meet at the Liberty St. Trailhead. The walk is about three miles and fairly easy.

Fundamentals of Bowling

A fundamentals of bowling programs is offered several times throughout the year. In just a few short weeks, you can learn all of the basic rules and techniques to bowling. Contact us for the next start date.
