Those Principles are:

  1. Adhere to the Law: Uphold the Constitution of the United States, as well as the Code of Virginia.
  2. Protect & Defend the Integrity of the Election Process: Safeguard against fraud and deceit by demonstrating transparency and lawful practices.
  3. Promote Transparency in the Conduct of Elections: Ensure that we conduct ourselves and actions so that everyone feels secure and confident in our elections.
  4. Treat all participants impartially: All people, including voters, citizens, candidates and political committees should be treated fairly, equally, and respectfully.
  5. Demonstrate personal Integrity: Conduct ourselves honestly and forthrightly in all interactions with others.
  6. Practice the highest level of Ethics and Stewardship: We have a duty to expend public funds carefully, and foster respect among employees, volunteers, and the public.
  7. Protect the Public Office: We have a responsibility to protect the virtue of elections from manipulation, personal or partisan gain.
  8. Advance Professional Excellence: We must educate not only ourselves, but the public as well, on new developments in election management, processes and laws through competency, legitimacy, and training.
