Jury Fraud Alert

Several courts across Virginia have reported receiving calls from concerned citizens who have been victims of jury scams.

These scams take place via phone calls or emails that typically go as follows:

The caller/emailer identifies themselves as courthouse personnel or a member of local law enforcement. They inform the citizen that they have missed jury duty and now owe a fine and will face jail time if they do not pay. The scammer then asks for personal information, such as a credit/debit card number, social security number, or bank account number. Some have even reported being asked to purchase a pre-paid card as payment for their supposed "fines". THIS IS A SCAM!

Court personnel and law enforcement would not call a juror to request money for jury-related services. The Circuit Court also does not communicate via email regarding jury duty unless you have already opted-in after being sent your questionnaire in the mail.

Please do not share your personal information via phone or email with someone you are not familiar with and do not use phone numbers provided by such person as a way to confirm their identity.
